In Memory of Sir Tumu Te Heuheu Tūkino VIII, Paramount Chief of Ngāti Tūwharetoa

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Sir Tumu Te Heuheu Tūkino VIII, Paramount Chief of Ngāti Tūwharetoa. 

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Lady Susan and the wider whānau. Sir Tumu’s quiet determination, influence, and steadfast leadership will leave a lasting legacy for the region, Aotearoa, and the wider world. One of his final wishes was for Tongariro National Park to be returned to mana whenua. His vision and legacy will endure for generations to come.
